Understanding Your Switchboard Components
A modern switchboard has four distinct protective devices — each does a different job.
Circuit Breaker
Protects your wiring from overload and short circuits. It trips when too much current flows — preventing fires. It does NOT protect humans from electric shock.
Safety Switch (RCD)
Detects current leaking to earth and cuts power in 0.003 seconds — fast enough to prevent a fatal shock. This is the device that protects people, not just wiring.
